Palynology of Philippine Amorphophallus Blume ex Decne. (Araceae) and its taxonomic implications

Abstract. Fontarum-Bulawin NF, Medecilo-Guiang MMP, Calaramo MA, Alejandro GJD. 2023. Palynology of Philippine Amorphophallus Blume ex Decne. (Araceae) and its taxonomic implications. Biodiversitas 24: 4095-4109. is one the genera Araceae with diverse pollen characters. This study aimed to investigate morphological characters in Philippines for inferring taxonomical relationships. Light microscopy (LM) scanning electron (SEM) were employed morphology 14 accessions Amorphophallus. Both acetolyzed unacetolyzed pollens studied compare outward aspect subjected cluster analysis. Results revealed that grains mostly spheroidal, prolate-spheroidal, subspheroidal shape. Cluster analysis using Euclidean generated 2 major clusters, namely I consists adamsensis Magtoto, Mones, Ballada, Austria, R.M.Dizon, Alangui, Regina, sp.3 (Samar), yaoi A.Galloway, Hett. & Medecilo, flammeus Calaramo, Batuyong, Bulawin Alejandro, urceolatus et al. (Ilocos), rayongii sp.2 (Romblon), Hett., A.Galloway Medecilo (Cavite); paeoniifolius (Dennst.) Nicolson, fontarumii Bulawin, rostratus longispathaceus Engl.& Gehrm., sp.1 Based on this study, shape, size, ornamentation can be used as supplemental identification Philippines.
